Master-Pack Group Berhad, formerly Hunza Consolidation Berhad, originated in 1994 and became a public entity in 1996. The enterprise secured its listing on the second board of the Malaysian Stock Market in 1997, operating under the designation ‘7029 HUNZA.’

In 2004, a significant acquisition of shares by Yayasan Bumiputra Pulau Pinang prompted a shift in the chairmanship of the board of directors, with Dato’ Seri Syed Mohamad bin Syed Murtaza taking the helm.

Under his perspicacious leadership, the company underwent a strategic transformation, culminating in the rebranding from Hunza Consolidation Berhad to Master-Pack Group Berhad in June 2009. Simultaneously, its trading symbol changed to ‘7029 MASTER’ on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia.

The company’s primary activities encompass investment holdings and management services. Master-Pack Group focuses on the corrugated paper packaging sector while maintaining an open policy to explore new business ventures that promise profitability.

Incorporated in 1989, Master-Pack has steadily evolved into a reputable entity within the specialised packaging industry. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Master-Pack Group Berhad, it operates two manufacturing facilities in Nibong Tebal, Malaysia.

Master-Pack aims to become the preferred packaging partner, offering customers a comprehensive range of packaging solutions through its One-Stop Packaging Services. The company excels in producing bespoke corrugated paperboard and carton boxes to meet specific customer requirements and quality standards.

Additionally, it provides innovative and cost-effective packaging solutions, helping clients enhance their carton box designs while adhering to rigorous quality criteria.

The company possesses the capacity to provide warehousing services and currently implements vendor-managed inventory systems for several major clients. Master-Pack Sarawak, formerly Hunza Packaging Sarawak Sdn Bhd, was established on 30 December 1991 and acquired by Master-Pack Group Berhad as a wholly owned subsidiary on 29 June 2000. This subsidiary serves as a pivotal entity, catering to a clientele in the states of Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei Darussalam.

The company’s principal undertakings encompass the manufacturing of corrugated cartons and paperboard. Master-Pack Sarawak has established itself unequivocally as a reputable packaging manufacturer and prominent supplier in East Malaysia’s packaging industry.

Master-Pack Vietnam Co Ltd, a subsidiary of Master-Pack Group Berhad, a publicly listed entity on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, was incorporated outside Malaysia in July 2018. Since then, the company has evolved into a distinguished manufacturer of wooden packaging, primarily operating in the southern region of Vietnam, specifically in Long An Province.

The company’s expertise resides in producing customised laminated veneer lumber (LVL) pallet products to meet specifications and preferences.

Dato’ Seri Syed, 77, was born on 1 November 1947, descending from merchants of many industrial connections. He holds a High School Certificate (HSC) from Penang Free School in Pulau Pinang but turned down an opportunity to further his studies in the United Kingdom.

Dato’ Seri Syed’s career began as a salesperson at Asian Motors Sdn Bhd. Seeking new experiences, he joined Shell Malaysia Sdn Bhd for five years. Subsequently, he was employed by Oriental Boon Siew Sdn Bhd, where he was the only Muslim board member and managing director with no familial ties to Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew.
