Datuk Joseph Chee Choon Wee, a finance professional with over 20 years of industry experience, founded Summer Capital in 2017 and serves as its chairman. Before founding Summer Capital, Datuk Chee was the Asia Head of Investment Banking and Head of Global Capital Markets at UBS AG.

Headquartered in Hong Kong, Summer Capital manages private equity and venture capital funds. The firm administers three funds that primarily target biotech companies in China. The buyout funds hold significant shares in several global companies, including one of Switzerland’s two crypto digital banks and a Boston biotech firm. Since its inception, Datuk Chee has played a crucial role in several early investments for Summer Capital, including the privatisation of CWT from the SGX for SGD 1.3 billion, the acquisition of Swiss Education Group for CHF 630 million, and the incubation of SEBA Bank AG (over CHF 600 million).

His move to Beijing in 2006 established UBS Securities’ franchise in China, now recognised as the best foreign joint venture in the domestic market.

In 2010, he oversaw the Asia Global Capital Markets Group, and in 2015, he led the Asia Investment Banking business. Under his leadership, UBS Asia Pacific maintained a dominant position in various IPO and capital markets league tables, consistently earning prestigious awards such as ‘Bank of the Year’ and ‘Equity House of the Year’ from reputable institutions like IFR, Finance Asia, The Asset, and Asia Money.

His extensive banking career in the Asia Pacific included building a vast network across corporations, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies. Throughout his career, Datuk Chee has completed over 150 IPOs and more than 300 equity, equity-linked, and debt transactions for issuers, raising over US$250 billion in capital.
